Bruce Willis Biography:
Walter Bruce Willis was born in West Germany in 1955, his father was an American soldier, and his mother was a German native. Willis attended high school in New Jersey and had to battle a stutter. He started to take up acting as a way of overcoming his stutter and building confidence. After high school, he worked for a time as a security guard, and a private investigator, before turning to acting.
Starting his career in off-Broadway productions, Willis was bartending on the side, when a casting director enjoyed his personality and offered him a part. In 1985, he finally got his break when he landed the part of David Addison in hot TV show Moonlighting (1985). The show landed Willis a Golden Globe and Emmy Award, but he was still struggling to break into movies.
All that changed in 1988 when Willis, against the wishes of the studio, was cast as John McClane in classic action movie Die Hard (1988). He has played the role of John McClane a further 4 times in the Die Hard sequels, most recently in 2013’s A Good Day to Die Hard. In the late 1980s, Willis enjoyed some moderate and unexpected success as a recording artist, and his debut album The Return of Bruno was a success in the Billboard 200.
Outside of the action genre, Willis has starred in commercially successful movies like Pulp Fiction (1994), 12 Monkeys (1995), and The Sixth Sense (1999). Willis has continued to produce successful movies and has returned to the action genre in recent years. He will star in the upcoming remake of the Charles Bronson classic Death Wish, scheduled for a 2017 release.
